English Brass Academy offers educational performance opportunities for brass and percussion players. It also provides music theory tuition for any instrumentalist including a specially devised course culminating in the Grade 5 theory examination. All our brass and percussion tutors are leading performers and teachers who work with me to develop courses that are innovative and creative. We aim to help our musicians develop the skills necessary to build confidence based on technical knowledge and musical awareness in an encouraging and supportive atmosphere.
I have been involved in music education for over 30 years and, alongside my energetic team of tutors, bring my knowledge and experience to provide performing and learning opportunities for all musicians. Development takes place at a comfortable pace, improving musicianship and self-confidence irrespective of current levels of attainment.
English Brass Academy Junior offers courses for young brass players aged 8 - 15 years. These courses are ideal for players from Grades 1 - 7 and offer a valuable educational experience through sessions that encourage everyone to rehearse, perform and socialise in a supportive atmosphere.
English Brass Academy Advanced offers performance opportunities for brass players 16 years and above. Minimum level of performance is Grade 8 or its equivalent. Players under 16 years can be accepted on these courses if the required performance level is achieved.
Percussion Academy is led by Simon Whittaker, who has oversees the design and content of the programme. The team of tutors work with the students using music for tuned percussion, timpani, latin percussion, snare drum, timpani and drum kit.
Grade 5 Music Theory is a classroom based course led by Julie Edwards, Director of Music at The English School in Kuwait. that helps to develop knowledge of music theory. The theory course has two options:
Option 1) Take the full course with the Grade 5 theory exam on the final day.
Option 2) Join us for a 2-day prep course and take the Grade 5 examination on the final day.
English Brass Academy Summer Festivals are concert tours for advanced brass & percussionists. The Festivals allow our musicians the opportunity to work together, rehearsing and performing in superb locations in Europe. Performances take place in key locations with plenty of time to enjoy the sights and sounds of the local environment.
All the courses take place in superb venues with excellent catering facilities. Eileen Carney-Jones, Pastoral Care Lead, is an NHS Nurse Practitioner with many years experience in medical and pastoral care.
